“Sad to know about the demise of Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, eminent Santoor player and internationally celebrated Indian music composer. His departure impoverishes our cultural world. My deepest condolences,” Mamata Banerjee tweeted.

Pandit Shivkumar Sharma had been suffering from kidney-related ailments for the past six months. He was undergoing dialysis as well. His funeral will be held this evening.
Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, who was born in Jammu, began learning santoor at the age of thirteen. Credited with popularising the santoor, his first public performance was in Mumbai in 1955.
With flautist Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma also composed music for several Hindi films, including Silsila, Chandni as well as Darr.
