Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut has been sent to ED custody till August 4 in a money laundering case linked to redevelopment of a chawl project in Mumbai. Raut, 60, was arrested after over six hours of questioning and nine-hour-long raids on his residence on Sunday.
When Raut was produced before a PMLA court, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray met Raut's family and slammed the BJP over vendetta politics. Here are the top points.
1) ED officials, who recovered Rs 11.5 lakh from MP Sanjay Raut's residence, claimed that he was not cooperating with the probe. On Monday, India today accessed Sanjay Raut’s arrest memo which highlighted that the ED has enough proof, including transaction details, to believe Raut was guilty of money laundering.

2) After a medical check, ED officials then produced Sanjay Raut before a PMLA court and sought his custody. The ED told the court that Raut received Rs 1.06 crore crime proceeds in Patra chawl scam. On the other hand, Advocate Ashok Mundargi appearing for Raut argued that the arrest was only due to “political vendetta” under “changed (political) circumstances”. He alleged that the allegations in the remand were only speculative.
After hearing the arguments, the court observed that a four-day custody would suffice and sent Raut to ED custody till August 4.
3) When Raut was in court, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray met Raut's family and slammed the BJP over vendetta politics.
