
Samyukta Kisan Morcha writes to PM Modi, asks govt to resume talks with farmers

The last dialogue between the government and farmers happened on January 22 before the talks were discountinued due to the January 26 violence.
After months of deadlock, Samyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of over 40 farmer unions protesting against the three new farm laws, wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday asking for the resumption of talks between the government and farmers. The Centre has held multiple rounds of talks with the farmers to address their concerns regarding the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and other issues with the three new farm laws. The last dialogue between the government and farmers happened on January 22 before the talks were discontinued due to the January 26 violence. In a press statement, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha said the protesting farmers "do not wish to expose anyone to the health hazards of the pandemic", but cannot also give up on the struggle as it is a "matter of life and death, and also of future generations".
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
