Samajwadi party MLA Ramakant Yadav mastermind in Azamgarh liquor tragedy, says police

Samajwadi party MLA Ramakant Yadav was the mastermind in the Azamgarh liquor tragedy that claimed the lives of seven people. Police has named the minister as an accused in the case and action would be taken against him.

Azamgarh police in Uttar Pradesh said that Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Ramakant Yadav was the mastermind in the Azamgarh hooch tragedy that killed seven people this year. Police have taken action against Ramakant Yadav in connection with the Azamgarh liquor tragedy that happened in February 2022. Police have included the name of Ramakant Yadav in the list of accused for their alleged involvement in the hooch tragedy case.

Ramakant Yadav, MLA from Phoolpur Pawai constituency, was the mastermind in the liquor tragedy in the district and now action has been taken against him. Police will impose the provisions of the National Security Act (NSA) and the Gangsters Act against all the accused involved in the incident. The SP leader has moved MP/MLA court for remand.

Earlier this year, police had registered a case and four people, including Rangesh Yadav, were detained. Rangesh is a close relative of SP leader and former MP Ramakant Yadav, according to locals, reported news agency PTI.

When asked about his name figuring in the case, Yadav had said it is being done as part of a conspiracy against him during election time. The spurious liquor was procured from Rangesh Yadav's country liquor shop in Ahiraula area of Azamgarh district.

At least 13 people have been sent to jail for their involvement in the hooch tragedy, out of which provisions of the NSA and Gangsters Act have already been slapped on six people.
