Russia claims victory at Admiral’s Cup 2024 at Indian Naval Academy

Team Russia clinched the coveted Admiral’s Cup 2024 at the 13th edition of the international sailing regatta that concluded on Friday on the Ettikulam Beach, Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala. Lieutenant Gorkunov Petr Ilyich and Cadet Loshichinina Polina Vladislavovna secured the top position for Russia, defeating competitors from 24 other nations. Team Italy, represented by Midshipman Carlo Leonardo and Midshipman Ensign Camilla Bernabei, emerged the runners-up, while Team India’s INA ‘A’, represented by SLt Japman Avtar and Cdt P.K. Reddy, finished third. In the men’s individual category, Lt Gorkunov Petr Ilyich of Russia claimed first place, with Singapore’s 2Lt Darius Lee Kheng Wee and Greece’s Ensign Pappas Vissarion HN securing second and third positions, respectively. Ensign Camilla Bernabei of Italy topped the women’s individual category, followed by Cdt Loshichinina Polina Vladislavovna of Russia and SLt Isha Shah of India.
The regatta, held from December 9 to 13, featured 53 participants, including 14 women, who showcased their prowess in Laser Radial boats under challenging wind and weather conditions. Since its inception in 2010, the event has grown in stature, drawing entries from 25 nations, alongside Indian teams from the INA, Ezhimala, and NDA, Khadakwasla.
During the last five days, the visiting foreign teams and accompanying officials were involved in various activities apart from competitive racing, which included visit to training and sporting facilities located at the Indian Naval Academy.
