India Today
The seven BJP MLAs, who had been suspended for allegedly creating a ruckus in the West Bengal Assembly in March this year, can rejoin House proceedings as their suspension has been revoked.
The suspension of seven Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs, including Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari and chief whip Manoj Tigga, from the West Bengal legislative assembly, has been withdrawn.
The seven BJP MLAs were suspended from the House for the monsoon session for their alleged unruly conduct in the House. At first, Sudip Mukhopadhyay and Mihir Goswami were suspended on March 9. Later, Suvendu Adhikary, Manoj Tigga, Narhari Mahato, Mihir Goswami, and Shankar Ghosh were suspended on March 28.
The BJP MLAs had earlier submitted an application to Speaker Biman Bandhopadhyay to revoke their suspension, but citing ‘technical error’ the Speaker had asked them to resubmit the motion.
The BJP MLAs also held a protest outside the assembly against their suspension. On Tuesday, LoP Suvendu Adhikary moved Calcutta High Court, which had asked the Speaker to look into the matter.
The five MLAs suspended on March 28 were allegedly involved in a ruckus that ensued in the West Bengal Assembly, following demands by the Opposition to discuss the Birbhum violence.
