
Revised textbook needs to be withdrawn, not review committee, says Karnataka opposition leader Siddaramaiah

Siddaramaiah, the leader of opposition in Karnataka, hit out at CM Basavaraj Bommai over disbanding the textbook review committee. The Congress leader said that it is the textbook that needs to be withdrawn and not the committee.
The leader of the opposition in Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, took to Twitter to slam Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s decision to disband the textbook review committee.
CM Bommai disbanded the textbook review committee on Saturday, June 4, amid allegations that the BJP government was trying to saffronise education in the state.
A raging controversy emerged in Karnataka after a textbook review committee included a lesson on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar's speech in school books, while allegedly omitting chapters on freedom fighters, social reformers and literary figures.
CM Bommai issued a statement that the textbook review committee was dissolved as its designated work was completed. He said the government was open to further revision if there is any objectionable content.
