Retail inflation edged up to 2.75% in January 2026 under the revised Consumer Price Index series with base year 2024, marking the first release under the new methodology.

Year-on-year inflation based on the All India CPI with base year 2024 stood at 2.75% in January 2026 over January 2025 on a provisional basis.
Rural inflation came in at 2.73%, while urban inflation was slightly higher at 2.77%. The Consumer Food Price Index, or CFPI, showed food inflation at 2.13% nationally. Rural food inflation was 1.96%, compared with 2.44% in urban areas.
Housing inflation for January stood at 2.05%. Rural housing inflation was higher at 2.39%, while urban housing inflation was recorded at 1.92%.
In index terms, the All India CPI (General) stood at 104.46, with rural at 104.59 and urban at 104.30. The All India CFPI index stood at 104.04, with rural at 103.89 and urban at 104.31.
