Residents of Arasan Nagar petition Dindigul Collector to address sewage overflow and sullage spread in residential area.
Residents of Arasan Nagar on Monday submitted a petition to Dindigul Collector urging the authorities to take necessary steps to arrest the overflow of sewage and clear the sullage that has now spread to the streets in their area.
Following rains, the sewage that had been stagnant in one house spread to the streets emitting foul stench all over the residential area of Arasan Nagar.
The residents of Ward 17 of Dindigul Corporation said that despite repeated complaints being made for about two weeks now no action has been taken by the authorities.
The residents complained that the authorities are yet to pump out and clear the sewage that had first entered the household due to a leakage in the underground drainage system which has now affected the entire area.
They said that they were unable to sleep at night and breathe properly as the stench was unbearable. Photographs of the stagnant sewage were already sent to the authorities concerned urging them to take necessary steps in this regard. However, there was no proper response from the authorities, the residents said.
Earlier, they said that some of the residents had moved to their relatives or friends place and some had sent their children to other places as the fear of dengue outbreak looms large.
They urged the authorities concerned to take immediate steps to pump out and clear the stagnant sewage. The residents said that they would stage a protest if the authorities did not take necessary action in this regard.
