A month after communal clashes broke out in Jodhpur, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced compensation for the victims. Communal clashes were reported in Jodhpur over the hoisting of a flag before Eid celebrations last month.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has announced compensation for victims of Jodhpur communal violence that broke out last month. The CM said those at the receiving end of communal violence in Jodhpur last month will be compensated. The Gehlot dispensation has decided to compensate those who were injured and whose properties and vehicles were damaged in the communal violence.

Incidents of communal clashes over hoisting of a flag before Eid in Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's constituency of Jodhpur were reported last month that left several people injured. Police arrested more than 250 people and 33 cases were registered in connection with the violence.

As per the state government's decision, a total of 21 people who received injuries will be paid a compensation of Rs 9.5 lakh. Apart from that, around 69 people whose properties and vehicles were damaged will be given compensation of Rs 7.83 lakhs.

A curfew was also imposed in various parts of the district in a bid to bring the situation under control.

Tensions prevailed in Jodhpur after a fight broke out between two communities over the installation of a flag and a loudspeaker at Jalori Gate last month. After the incident, the Chief Minister chaired a high-level meeting and ordered that strict action should be taken against the accused.

In April, communal clashes broke out in Rajasthan's Karauli when a rally was being carried out by members of a few Hindu organisations on the occasion of 'Nav Samvatsar', the first day of Hindu New Year. Karauli Kotwali SHO Rameshwar Dayal Meena, who was injured in the incident, in his complaint said that the violence started when the rally was pelted with stones while passing through a Muslim-dominated neighbourhood.

Around 42 people were injured and several shops and houses were set on fire during the violence on April 2 in Rajasthan's Karauli.
