Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said that the extent of radicalisation is minuscule, as compared to the population of the country.
The government on Tuesday said that despite efforts by international terrorist groups, the extent of radicalisation is minuscule, as compared to the population of the country.
Responding to a question by MP Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah and Kunwar Pushpendra Singh Chandel, Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai told the Lok Sabha that due to concerted and coordinated efforts of all the stakeholders, terrorism-related violence has been contained to a large extent in the country.
"In Indian context, some foreign agencies inimical to India along with global terrorist groups are making efforts to radicalise people. However, inclination towards radical ideologies is minuscule as compared to the population of the country owing to various factors," he said during the Monsoon session of the Parliament.
Nityanand Rai said that to battle terrorism, the government has created a counter terrorism and counter radicalisation division in Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to help and coordinate with various security and law enforcement agencies.
The Centre has also proscribed a number of organisations as terrorist organisations/unlawful Association under the UAPA 1967, he said.
The minister's response has come at a time when two beheadings in Udaipur and Amravati and BJP leader Nupur Sharma's remarks on Prophet Muhammad and Islam have rocked the nation.
During the session, Nityanand Rai also talked about universal coverage of various government welfare schemes without discrimination.
