A woman in Haryana alleged she was raped in police custody and has threatened to protest outside CM Bhagwant Mann's house over police inaction.
A woman in Haryana has alleged that she was raped by a senior police officer while she was in jail. The woman alleged that she was raped when she was in Amritsar jail when she was in custody in 2016.
She further alleged that she got pregnant, following which the accused married her inside the jail and helped her get the bail. The senior police officer is currently posted as the commander of the Fourth Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) in Pathankot.
The woman has threatened to protest outside the residence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann if action is not taken against Amritsar Jail Superintendent Ashish Kapoor and others is not taken within ten days.
The woman also alleged that she was raped in a police station in Mohali, besides in a moving vehicle. The victim was booked for immigration fraud between 2012 and 2018. She was convicted for three years and is on bail after spending 16 months in jail.
The accused has denied the allegations, saying the complainant is an 'habitual offender'.
"Despite the FIR being registered against the Punjab police officer and his two colleagues, no action has been taken against them by the police department. I was raped in custody. Money was extorted from me and my relatives. He (Ashish Kapoor) and Samarpal (now DSP) also threatened to rape my brother's wife," she said.
The woman said that she came in contact with Ashish Kapoor in 2016 when she was an undertrial prisoner and he was Amritsar jail superintendent.
