Protests in Coimbatore against Amit Shah's remarks on B.R. Ambedkar, with effigies burnt and police intervention.
Various organisations staged protests in Coimbatore on Thursday condemning the remarks made by Home Minister Amit Shah on B.R. Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha on December 17.
Members of Tamil Puligal Katchi took out a march dragging an effigy of the Home Minister along the road towards the collectorate from the Post Office Road before setting it ablaze. Police personnel blocked them and extinguished the burning effigy before they could reach the collectorate.
Similarly, members of the Dravida Tamilar Katchi burnt an effigy of Mr. Shah on the State Bank Road in front of the BSNL office near the collectorate. The police put out the fire. Adi Tamilar Peravai also burnt an effigy of Mr. Shah on the State Bank Road near collectorate.
Members of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi staged a protest in front of Coimbatore south tahsildar’s office on Thursday evening, condemning Mr. Shah’s remarks on the revolutionary leader in the Upper House. The Social Democratic Party of India staged a protest in front of the BSNL office in the evening.
