A fresh clash broke out between police and protesters at Panchla Bazaar in Howrah on Saturday, June 11. Police used tear gas shells to disperse the crowd as protesters pelt stones.
Section 144 of CrPC that was imposed in the Uluberia sub-division was extended till June 15.
As of now, the Howrah Police have arrested 70 people since last night in relation to the violence that broke out on Friday.
Meanwhile, BJP MP and West Bengal BJP vice president Saumitra Khan urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to deploy central forces in the state in the wake of recent developments that led to suspension of internet services, curfew imposition in several areas of the district.
In Kolkata, hundreds turned up during Friday prayers with posters demanding Nupur Sharma’s arrest. The state also saw demonstrations on Thursday, with protestors putting up road blockades in several places of West Bengal's Howrah district to protest against the controversial speech of BJP leaders Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal.
