
Property worth Rs 4 crore damaged due to rain in Tirupati-Tirumala

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams said heavy rains and flash floods have resulted in loss of property to the tune of Rs 4 crore in the religious centre.
Rains in Tirumala and Tirupati between November 17-19 -- the highest in 30 years -- has inundated low-lying areas and caused loss of property to the tune of Rs 4 crore, according to the trust that manages the affairs of the religious centre.
“Heavy downpour led to the bursting of check dams and other water bodies in the Sheshachala hill ranges leading to waterlogging in Tirupati town as a huge quantum of rainwater gushed out of Kapilatheertha outlet,” said Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Chairman YV Subba Reddy.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
