The petrol and diesel prices in India have remained constant for 14 days in a row since April 15. While the price of petrol fell by 16 paise per litre, that of diesel went down by 14 paise per litre in Delhi. In Mumbai, petrol is available at Rs 96.83 per litre and diesel at Rs 87.81 per litre. The prices for petrol and diesel are different for every state and both the state and central government are levying tax on auto fuel, which includes freight charges. Data shows that the central government is going to levy Rs 33 per litre on petrol while the state government will levy Rs 20 per litre on petrol. The taxes levied by the centre and state together make up for 60 percent of the retail selling price of petrol and 54 percent that of diesel.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
