Precautionary measures put in place in Dharwad district

Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad ensures preparedness for emergencies with mock drills and helplines, emphasizing public safety and awareness.
Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad and Chairperson of District Disaster Management Authority Divya Prabhu G.R.J. has said that having identified 20 sensitive places in terms of security, the district administration has taken adequate precautionary measures and is prepared to tackle any external attack or man-made disaster.
She was speaking to presspersons after leading a team to conduct a mock drill as part of Operation Abhyaas which was jointly conducted by the district administration and HPCL in Dharwad on Friday.
The Deputy Commissioner said that they have ensured that seven government hospitals, 31 private hospitals are ready to handle any emergency situation. And, they have deployed 725 Home Guards to take up relief measures in case of emergencies.
The residents can call the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) helplines (0836-2445308, 2441077) or the Police Commissioner’s office helpline (0836-2233555) or the Superintendent of Police office helpline (0836-2233201) in case of emergeny, she said.
Across the country, mock drills are being conducted to check the preparedeness of the local authorities to take up relief and rescue missions in case of emergency situations like fire mishap, airstrike, bomb blast and others, she said.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the mock drill involving gas leakage and consequent fire mishap was carried out in association with Home Guards, Fire and Emergency Services and other personnel. The mock drill was also aimed at spreading awareness on people’s responsibilities during times of emergencies, she said.
Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar said that as on date, the twin cities have not witnessed any case of external attack post-Independence. “However, the mock drill was aimed at checking our preparedness in handling emergency situations,” he said.
