Amid a growing political and legal controversy over former Army chief General MM Naravane’s book Four Stars of Destiny, Penguin Random House India has issued a second clarification, reiterating that the book has not yet been published.
In its latest statement, Penguin said that an announced book, a book available for pre-order and a published book are not the same, reiterating that a book is considered “published” only when it is formally released and available for purchase across retail platforms. India Today was the first to report that the publisher had clarified the status of the book.
The clarification came as the Delhi Police registered an FIR over the alleged circulation of an unpublished book authored by General Naravane on social media. The case was registered hours after India Today reported how Congress leader Rahul Gandhi got an unpublished book by former Army chief General Naravane which was not meant to go to press without clearance from the Ministry of Defence (MoD), and which Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said “does not exist”.
In an official statement issued on Monday, the Delhi Police said it had taken cognisance of information circulating on social media platforms and online news forums claiming that a pre-print copy of a book titled Four Stars of Destiny was being circulated without mandatory clearance from competent authorities.
According to the police, it was also reported that the necessary clearance for publication of the book is yet to be received from the relevant authorities. “Upon verification, it was found that a PDF copy of a type-set book with the same title and apparently prepared by M/s Penguin Random House India Pvt Ltd is available on certain websites and, also, some online marketing platforms have displayed the finished book cover as if it is available for purchase,” the statement said.
The police said a case has been registered with the Special Cell to carry out a thorough investigation into the purported leak or breach of a yet-to-be-approved publication, and that the investigation is underway.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

India's original Dhurandhar, Ravindra Kaushik, rose from acting at college theatres, to infiltrating the Pakistan Army as a RAW Agent. He provided critical intelligence on Pakistani troop movements and the country's nuclear programme, but died a lonely death after his betrayal and subsequent capture by the ISI.
