Bengaluru hosts pre-event for International Trade Fair, highlighting sustainable agriculture and direct farmer-consumer connections, especially for millets.
The Department of Agriculture, Government of Karnataka, in collaboration with the Department of Life Sciences, Kristu Jayanti University, organised a pre-event to the International Trade Fair–2026 on (January 28, 20260. The initiative aimed to create awareness among students and key stakeholders about sustainable agriculture, healthy food practices, and farmer-centric development.
Addressing the gathering, N. Chaluvarayaswamy, Minister for Agriculture, expressed concern over changing food consumption patterns and emphasised the importance of nutritious, natural diets. He highlighted the crucial role of youth in reviving respect for agriculture and encouraged students to gain a deeper understanding of farming realities to become socially responsible citizens.
The event also highlighted the upcoming International Trade Fair, scheduled to be held from February 6 to 8 at Palace Grounds, Bengaluru, where farmers will directly showcase and sell their produce — especially millets — to consumers. The initiative aims to promote healthy eating habits while strengthening farmers’ economic empowerment.
