A teenager was taken to hospital after being Tasered and shot with rubber bullets after an incident in west London on Wednesday.
It happened after London police officers were called to a home on Riverside Drive for a domestic incident, according to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), the province's police watchdog. It has launched a probe because a blunt impact projectile firearm — a gun that shoots rubber bullets — was used.
A news release from the watchdog didn't mention that the teen had a weapon, but said officers arrived at 1:30 p.m. and confronted a 17-year-old boy and after an interaction, a Taser was used, as well as rubber bullets.
The teen was taken to hospital but didn't sustain major injuries.
London police also put out a release, saying that when they arrived, they found the teen with a weapon and that he was first shot with rubber bullets and then a Taser, after he continued to resist arrest.
The teen remains in custody.
The Special Investigations Unit is usually called in when a police interaction leads to serious injury or death. In this case, the teen was not seriously injured but the SIU was called in because a firearm was used by police
An investigation by the Transportation Safety Board has determined the death of a pilot boat deckhand near St. John's was caused by a confluence of factors including a damaged flotation device, a flawed tether system and a minimum staffing level that left one person responsible for driving the boat and rescuing him from the water.
