Police retaliated after people started pelting stones: Darrang district ASP

The Darrang district Additional Superintendent of Police has said that the police retaliated when the mob started pelting stones.

Darrang district Additional Superintendent of Police Rupam Phukan has reacted to the violent incident that took place at Dholpur area under the Sipajhar assembly constituency on Thursday.

Rupam Phukan said, “Thousands of people were gathered at the area. First, they prevented us from carrying out the eviction drive. As our JCBs and tractors proceeded for the eviction, some people had started pelting stones, some of them chased our people with sharp weapons,”
