
PM Modi hails work done by women self-help groups, says they can connect villages with prosperity

PM Narendra Modi on Thursday hailed the women self-help groups (SHGs) for their contribution during the coronavirus pandemic, adding that the government is constantly creating an environment in which they can connect villages with prosperity.
Taking a swipe at the previous governments, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said for years, the amount of effort that should have been put in to economically empower women was not made and asserted that his dispensation is constantly creating an environment in which women self-help groups can connect villages with prosperity. Participating in the "Aatmanirbhar Narishakti se Samvad" (dialogue with self-reliant women), the prime minister interacted with the women self-help groups (SHGs) promoted under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) via video-conferencing.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
