Pawan Kalyan announces ₹37.25 crore upgrade for Pithapuram railway station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, enhancing passenger amenities.
Deputy Chief Minister and Pithapuram MLA K. Pawan Kalyan on Monday announced that the Ministry of Railways has approved the development of Pithapuram railway station at an estimated cost of ₹37.25 crore under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme in Kakinada district.
In March, Mr. Pawan Kalyan met Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and requested the inclusion of the station under the scheme, citing the influx of devotees from across South India visiting Pithapuram for darshan at local temples. He had also inspected the existing facilities during his recent visits.
In an official release, Mr. Pawan Kalyan said the scheme focuses on long-term modernisation of railway stations with improved passenger amenities.
The station will get a new building with an entrance gate, along with facilities for differently-abled passengers, a rest house, improved drainage and cabling, and renovation of platforms and shelters, as outlined in the approved master plan.
Mr. Pawan Kalyan thanked the Railway Ministry and officials concerned for approving the project.

When commuters enter Kattankulathur station premises along GST Road, they are greeted by an overpowering stench. As the toilet complex is locked, commuters relieve themselves in the open, filling the air with that stench. Commuters and pedestrians have to cross a stormwater drain network . This path is littered with trash and is also slippery, forcing the public to perform dangerous maneuvers to cross without getting their legs wet. A new FOB would provide safe passage for both rail commuters and the general public. Commuters have asked Southern Railway officials to inspect the station premises.
