Academic Robert Jose highlights personal data protection challenges amid technological advancements during a university debate on gender equality and cyber safety.
Protecting personal data has emerged as one of the biggest challenges in the present technology-driven era, Head of the Department of English Studies at Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University Robert Jose has said.
He was speaking on Thursday after inaugurating a debate competition organised by the university’s Internal Complaints Committee at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Auditorium on campus in Ballari.
Prof. Jose said that rapid technological advancements, particularly the use of artificial intelligence, have created situations where individuals are increasingly vulnerable to the misuse of personal information.
While women have made significant strides across various fields due to the struggle for gender equality, society now requires a “male revolution”, a change in attitudes among men, to ensure genuine equality and respect, he said.
Addressing a gathering, Arun Kumar Lagashetti from the Department of Chemistry said that India has strong legal frameworks to protect women but laws alone are insufficient.
“There is a pressing need to cultivate a culture of respect towards women in society,” he said.
