AIADMK general secretary and Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Wednesday (February 5, 2025) accused Chief Minister M.K. Stalin of not having taken measures to curb the sale of illicit liquor in the State.
In a social media post, Mr. Palaniswami expressed shock over the alleged sale of illicit liquor in a Tasmac outlet near Attur in Salem district. “Has the Stalin-model government not learned anything from the Marakkanam and Kallakurichi hooch tragedies that shook the nation? The bootlegger says that illicit liquor was being sold after having paid the police. The DMK government should be ashamed of institutionalising the sale of illicit liquor.”
“Further, the bootlegger claims to be a DMK member. Did Mr. Stalin come to power for his partymen to use their party identity as a licence to commit all the crimes? Will the police not take any action against them?” Mr. Palaniswami asked.
He urged the State government to arrest all those involved in the sale of illicit liquor without any political interference and take strict measures to curb bootlegging across Tamil Nadu.
