Opposition leader EPS, BJP’s Annamalai slam DMK over FIR against magazine, YouTubers

Opposition leader Edappadi Palaniswami and BJP leader Annamalai have slammed the ruling DMK government for an FIR filed against a magazine and two YouTubers. They had allegedly tried to blackmail a real estate group over it’s ties with the DMK government.

The Opposition leader in Tamil Nadu, Edappadi K Palaniswami, has slammed the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu over the recent FIR against a magazine and two YouTubers.

The FIR was filed against Vikatan, a bi-weekly magazine, Maridhas, who is a YouTuber, and Savukku Shankar, a whistleblower for an article on a real estate firm, for allegedly attempting to extort money.

Opposition leader Edapadi K Palaniswami questioned the reason behind the FIR and the arrest. “Police filing an FIR in rapid mode, naming the magazine and YouTubers without seeking an explanation can only be seen as a move to silence anyone speaking against the ruling government and a warning to the media”, tweeted Edapadi K Palaniswami.

Reacting to this, BJP leader Annamalai said that he had released a statement claiming that he had already mentioned G Square, and how it had close ties with the ruling family, and that East Coast Road (ECR) should be named G Sqaure road.

“Had the accused committed the crime, there are several civil sections to file against them, but it looks like criminal sections have been filed to trap them,” said Annamalai.

He questioned how come the FIR was filed so quickly when police take so much time to file an FIR over robbery or murder.

Purushotam Kumar had filed a complaint on behalf of G Square Realtors over an article alleging that the firm received special favours from the DMK government using the name of Chief Minister MK Stalin’s son-in-law and Anna Nagar MLA Mohan’s son.
