Surprise inspections at Andhra Pradesh cinemas reveal high prices, food quality issues; officials check licenses, safety standards, seating arrangements.
The officials from revenue, fire services, police, and legal metrology departments conducted surprise inspections at cinema theatres across Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday.
Similar exercises were carried out in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Kakinada, Amalapuram, Srikakulam, Pithapuram, and other places.
These inspections come in the wake of the ongoing controversy between the State government and film exhibitors regarding the closure of theatres.
The teams checked licences, prices and quality food and beverages being sold, fire safety standards, sanitation and toilet facilities, seating arrangements, sound systems, and movie screening at the theatres.
At many theatres, the teams found that food and beverages were being sold at very high prices. The inspection teams are set to submit reports to the respective District Collectors soon.
In Visakhapatnam, a team led by Seethammadhara Tahsildar Ramesh conducted raids on multiple, single-screen and multiplex theatres.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Ramesh said that the inspections were being carried out following directions from the government.
