
Odisha student dies of electrocution while lowering flag at Republic Day event

According to local accounts, students had hoisted the national flag on the rooftop of the coaching centre on Monday morning to celebrate Republic Day. The flag was raised using an iron pipe.
A Class 10 student was killed in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district after being electrocuted while lowering the Tricolour during a Republic Day event at a private coaching centre.
The victim has been identified as Om Prakash Dwivedi, originally from Kendrapara district. He had been residing at a relative’s home in Jagatsinghpur to pursue his studies. Om Prakash attended tuition classes at the coaching centre where the incident took place on Monday.

In the evening, as Om Prakash attempted to lower the flag, the metal pole accidentally touched an overhead live electric wire.
Witnesses reported that Om Prakash received a severe electric shock upon contact with the wire and collapsed immediately. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Ashwini Kumar Nanda, the owner of the coaching centre, was taken into custody as part of the probe into the incident.
