Ahead of its Jan Sampark Padyatra, the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) began a two-day preparatory meeting at the Baramunda field in the state capital on Friday.
The ruling BJD has announced a one-month Jan Sampark Padyatra 2022 from October 2 to apprise the public about the pro-people initiatives taken by the Naveen Patnaik government.
In a massive statewide attempt to connect with grassroots workers and the common masses, the Padyatra will be taken at ward, panchayat, and assembly segment levels. During the journey, the BJD leaders will garland statues of Mahatma Gandhi and Biju Patnaik.
The members and leaders will also plant saplings and hold blood donation camps during the Padyatra.
Besides this, the leaders will enlighten the common people about the social welfare schemes Naveen Patnaik's government has taken during his tenure as chief minister.
BJD’s Organisational Secretary Pranab Prakash Das chaired the meeting.
While addressing the meeting, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, "The BJD has become a people’s movement over the years." He said the BJD has taken the form of a collective movement to protect the interests of Odisha.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

India's original Dhurandhar, Ravindra Kaushik, rose from acting at college theatres, to infiltrating the Pakistan Army as a RAW Agent. He provided critical intelligence on Pakistani troop movements and the country's nuclear programme, but died a lonely death after his betrayal and subsequent capture by the ISI.
