The Odisha Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution to include ‘Ahimsa’ (non-violence) in the Preamble to the Indian Constitution.
The Odisha Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution to include ‘Ahimsa’ (non-violence) in the Preamble to the Indian Constitution. The resolution was passed to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s first visit to Odisha on March 23, 1921. Mahatma Gandhi had visited Odisha eight times during his lifetime. Nearly three years after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik called for the idea of ‘Ahimsa’ to be included in the Preamble, the Odisha Assembly unanimously passed the resolution on Tuesday.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
