The Jharkhand government has passed a bill in the ongoing budget session to amend the fines for smoking and spitting in public. The new provision would pave way for the enforcement agencies to slap a penalty of Rs 1000 on those, who are caught smoking or spitting in public places. The revision in the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) (Jharkhand Amendment) Bill, 2021, was made by the Assembly on the second last day of the ongoing budget session. The bill was tabled by the health department.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
