A New Jersey police officer was shot while responding to a domestic violence call, officials said.
The cop was hurt in Mercer County Friday night after officers responded to the 1800 block of Orchard Avenue in Hamilton Township around 10 p.m., according to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
A suspect “opened fire upon the officers as they responded to the call, striking one of the officers,” Hamilton Police posted on X.
The injured cop was taken to Capital Health-Fuld Hospital and “is expected to survive,” the post said.
“We were laying in bed sleeping and we started hearing gunshots,” neighbor Elizabeth Juliff told CBS News in Philadelphia. “And my husband thought it was one of those cars going by, and I said ‘No.’ And then our son was at the stop sign and pretty much saw the whole thing,” she told the outlet.
“A reminder about the dangers all police officers face,” Mayor Jeff Martin wrote in a Facebook post.
