NIA files chargesheet against founder of extremist religious group Ansarullah

NIA has filed a chargesheet against one of the founders of Tamil Nadu’s Ansarullah group, a supporter of Al-Qaeda and ISIS.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday, May 26 filed a chargesheet against one of the founders of Tamil Nadu’s Ansarullah group, an extremist religious group that is a supporter of Al-Qaeda and ISIS.
The accused has been identified as Divan Mujipeer. The chargesheet was filed under section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and provisions of the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The case pertains to a criminal conspiracy hatched by accused persons and their associates, who allegedly pledged to form a terrorist organisation, Ansarullah, with the intention of establishing Islamic rule in India, especially in Tamil Nadu.
According to NIA, the accused had recruited likeminded youth into their fold besides conducting religious classes with the intention of waging violent 'jihad' for establishing Islamic rule in India.
NIA had earlier filed a chargesheet against 11 accused persons on January 8, 2020 in this case.
“The case pertains to a criminal conspiracy hatched by the accused persons and their associates, who had pledged to the violent extremist ideology of proscribed terrorist organisations, including Al-Qaeda and ISIS, and had formed a terrorist gang, namely Ansarullah, while being in the UAE and in India,” a statement by NIA read.
Further probe in the case is underway.
