
New restrictions in Chennai for New Year as Covid-19 cases rise

The Chennai police have enforced new restrictions ahead of New Year celebrations due to an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases.
With the increase in the number of Covid-19 cases and Omicron threat, the police have enforced new restrictions in Chennai ahead of New Year celebrations. Tamil Nadu reported 619 Covid-19 cases including 11 due to the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2. Tamil Nadu’s Omicron caseload increased to 45. Two of them were cross notified to Puducherry and Kerala.
The Chennai police have asked people not to gather on any of the city beaches, including Marina, Besant Nagar, Neelankarai and those along the East Coast Road that connects Chennai with Kanyakumari.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
