Neena Gupta opens up about tolerating director's abuse on set: I needed the money

Actor Neena Gupta revealed her experience of being abused by a director on a film set. She also shared regrets over some of her past roles and cited financial pressures as a reason for certain choices.

Veteran actor Neena Gupta has recalled being verbally abused by a director on set. In a recent interview, Gupta opened up about an incident when she faced harsh language and mistreatment, even when she had not done anything wrong.

The 66-year-old also admitted to accepting roles she would later regret. She shared that financial constraints often pushed her to take on jobs she would have preferred to avoid.

In an interview with Times Now, the actor said, "You wouldn’t believe it, I have faced abuse on set. I was subjected to harsh insults without any reason. The director used those terms. Situation mein phasi nahi thi, paise chahiye the na. Kuch aur milta toh yeh nahi karti (I wasn’t in that situation willingly; I needed the money. If I had other options, I wouldn’t have done that)," she said.

Reflecting on her film choices, she remarked that some roles left her uneasy, to the extent that she wished the films would never be released. Gupta described one such experience where her role was limited and unfulfilling.

"Maine aise aise kaam kiye hai ki main ghar aake Bhagwan se prarthna karti thi yeh picture na release ho. Ek mein Shakti Kapoor ke gang ki member thi. Utna hi mera role tha (I have done such films that after going home, I prayed they never released. Once, I did a film where I played one of Shakti Kapoor’s gang members and stood there. That was my role)," the veteran actor said.
