A group of students studying in Classes VI to IX standards from 10 schools along with a section of teachers and Forest Department officials numbering 150 was taken to Narthamalai reserve forest, Sittanavasal, and Kudumiyanmalai.
The students were taken around Vijayalaya Choliswaram temple, ‘Sunai Lingam’ and rock cut temples at Narthamalai; the Kudumiyanmalai Siva temple and to Sittanavasal where the students were showed the cave paintings, meditation hall, Tamil annai statue, and park.
The importance of conserving forests and the environment and the importance of growing trees were emphasised to the students during the tour. A quiz competition was conducted for the students who planted tree saplings at Sittanavasal. Certificates and prizes were given to the winners in the competition. The camp was inaugurated by the District Forest Officer, Pudukottai S. Ganesalingam. The Forest Range Officer, Pudukottai, M. Sadhasivam and other department officials participated in the camp, a release said.
