
National Integration Day, please: Owaisi on marking ‘Telangana Liberation Day’

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi wrote to Amit Shah and Telangana Chief Minister Day K Chandrashekhar Rao to celebrate September 17 as 'National Integration Day'.
All India Majilis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has written to Home Minister Amit Shah and to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, urging them to celebrate September 17 as the day of national integration day instead of the day of liberation.

This comes hours after the chief of the BJP’s Telangana unit, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, demanded that the state government officially celebrate ‘Telangana Liberation Day’ on September 17, the day when the erstwhile Hyderabad state, under the Nizam’s rule, merged with the Indian Union in 1948.

“The government of India has announced that September 17 be celebrated as Liberation Day. But we appeal that the day must be celebrated as National Integration Day,” Owaisi, the chief of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), wrote in his letters.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
