N.B. COVID-19 roundup: 2 more deaths, death toll passes 100

New Brunswick has recorded two more deaths, pushing the death toll to 101, Premier Blaine Higgs announced Thursday.
He called it a "terrible milestone."
"These are not statistics, they are people with family and friends," he told the COVID briefing, which is being live-streamed here on CBC New Brunswick's website and on the government's English and French YouTube channels.
"I hate that we are back here after all we have done."
He also addressed anger people have expressed about the province reopening. "While we may have made mistakes along the way, this team has got us this far," he said, urging people to show support.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Jennifer Russell is also participating.
New Brunswick marked the highest death toll in Atlantic Canada Wednesday.
Public Health reported 69 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. There are 761 active cases across the province.
Fifty-five people are hospitalized because of the virus, including two people 19 or under. Sixteen people are in intensive care.
A total of 82.9 per cent of New Brunswickers age 12 and older are fully vaccinated, and 91.8 per cent have received their first dose.
New Brunswick has had 5,965 confirmed cases of COVID since the start of the pandemic, with 5,104 recoveries so far.
A total of 511,309 lab tests have been conducted to date.
A circuit breaker in several parts of the province is scheduled to end Friday at 6 p.m.
A 14-day circuit breaker was announced Oct. 5 for COVID "hot zones" to prevent the virus from "becoming even more entrenched.
