A 70-year-old man, retired resident of Byculla, has been arrested by the Agripada Police for allegedly molesting a minor girl who is his neighbour after luring her with chocolates and biscuits.
Police have arrested a 70-year-old man for allegedly molesting a minor girl who is his neighbour on the pretext of giving her chocolates and biscuits. The accused has been identified as Jinabhai Soliya, a retired resident of Byculla.
The incident came to light on May 6 after the victim, a 10-year-old girl, started behaving in a strange way when her mother probed her. Subsequently, she got to know about the sexual exploitation which had been going on for over a month, following which she approached the police to file a complaint against the accused.
The accused, who has been sent to police custody, would invite the minor child to his place to play frequently by luring her and on the pretext of giving her chocolates and biscuits.
An official from Agripada police station said “The accused used to call the minor girl to his house and would remove her clothes or undergarments and touch her private parts, before offering chocolates. A few hours before the mother filed a complaint, the victim was crying and refused to speak anything. Realising that something was amiss, the woman insisted her daughter to speak, following which the child revealed that the neighbour had been touching her inappropriately for quite some time.
The victim’s mother approached the police and filed a complaint and we later arrested the accused. A section of rape also might be added later,” the official added.
Soliya has been charged under sections 354, 506 of the Indian Penal Code read with 8, 12 Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
