
Mumbai Crime Branch to probe Salim Fruit in extortion case till October 6

The Mumbai crime branch's Anti-Extortion Cell has taken gangster Chhota Shakeel's brother-in-law Mohammad Salim Mohammad Iqbal Qureshi alias Salim Fruit in their custody to interrogate him about his involvement in an extortion case.

The Mumbai Crime Branch produced Salim Fruit in court, which remanded him in the custody of the crime branch till October 6.
Fruit has been in jail ever since the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested him for his involvement in a terror funding case.

The Mumbai Crime Branch's Anti-Extortion Cell also arrested Riyaz Bhati, a member of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's gang from Mumbai'sAndheri area.
The crime branch said that between February and August this year, Riyaz Bhati and Salim Fruit threatened a businessman to pay them Rs 62 lakh.
Fearing the threat, the businessman transferred Rs 7.5 lakh to the bank account of the accused. Apart from this, the businessman also gave them a Range Rover, which was registered in his wife's name, to the accused. It is believed that the estimated cost of the Range Rover is Rs 30 lakh.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
