The National Commission for SC/ ST has sought a report from Chennai City Police Commissioner and Collector over derogatory remarks made by Tamil Nadu Congress leader Elangovan against musician Ilaiyaraaja.
The Minority Commission sought a report after a complaint was filed against Elangovan by D Moorthy, the head of Parayar Peravai- a lesser-known caste outfit.
In his complaint, Moorthy stated that Elangovan 'indiscriminately abused and defamed his community using filthy language' in the name of criticising Ilaiyaraaja for his foreword where he had praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Earlier, Moorthy had alleged that Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) leader K Veeramani and several others who were present the dais were appreciating and encouraging EVKS Elangovan.
Moorthy sought punitive action against the Congress leader and K Veeramani claiming that such a speech by Elangovan might lead to communal rift in society.
Taking cognisance of the complaint, the National Commission for SC/ ST has now sought an actio-taken report within 15 days.
