Military-grade RDX was used in the IED which was recovered from Delhi's Old Seemapuri on Thursday, Delhi Police Special Cell sources have said.
Preliminary forensic examination has revealed that military-grade RDX was used in the improvised explosive device (IED) which was recovered from Old Seemapuri on Thursday, Delhi Police Special Cell sources have told India Today TV.
A timer device with ammonium nitrate was also recovered, similar to what was found in Kashmir and Punjab in December.
Military-grade RDX was also recovered from Ghazipur Flower Market in January. Such explosives are not easily available and, in the past, have been used by terrorists for making bombs.
Police sources suggested that the IED that was recovered yesterday was a sophisticated one and such explosives are generally used for mining purposes.
Delhi Police is currently investigating how these explosives were brought into the country. The officials suspect that these IEDs were assembled across the border and then sneaked in through Rajasthan, Kashmir, and Punjab.
The IED was recovered from a vacant house, and Delhi Police Special Cell is making efforts to nab those who resided in the place. The owner of the house had rented his second floor to two people two months ago through a property dealer. The police are interrogating the owner and the property dealer.
A team of the National Security Guard (NSG) disposed of the IED by blasting it in a pit at the district park in Dilshad Garden. The IED was lowered into an 8-foot deep pit, to reduce the explosion sound.
