The former first lady has been vocal about President Donald Trump’s remodeling.
Michelle Obama ripped President Donald Trump’s renovation of the White House’s East Wing, saying it’s a “reflection” of how he feels about the role of the first lady in the administration.
“When we talk about the East Wing, it is the heart of the work,” Obama said Wednesday night at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Howard Gilman Opera House, according to Vanity Fair. “And to denigrate it, to tear it down, to pretend like it doesn’t matter — it’s a reflection of how you think of that role,”
She continued, “Whether the West Wing understood it or not, I used to tell them: All the stuff we do on the East Wing, from the clothes I wear to [family dogs] Bo and Sunny to Malia and Sasha and grandma, those were five extra approval points that he got, because we provided a balance.”
While promoting her new book, “The Look,” which chronicles her style evolution, the Brooklyn event also doubled as a live taping of Obama’s podcast, “IMO,” with actor Tracee Ellis Ross as the show’s co-host.
In the past, the White House’s East Wing has housed the office of the first lady and her staff. Former first lady Rosalynn Carter was the first to have an office in the East Wing.
