
Meghalaya: Several organisations hold 'knife surrender' rally demanding justice for former HNLC leader

Several organizations and locals of Mawlai area in Meghalaya’s Shillong held a 'knife surrender' rally to demand justice for the former HNLC leader Cheristerfield Thangkhiew, who was killed in police retaliatory firing.
Almost a month after the controversial death of former Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) General Secretary Cheristerfield Thangkhiew, the residents of Mawlai area in Meghalaya’s capital city Shillong carried out a rally demanding justice for the former HNLC leader. Ka Sur Ki Nong Mawlai-- an umbrella body of 11 organisations on Monday held a ‘knife surrender rally’ in Mawlai area as a mark of protest against the "state government’s adamant attitude towards suspending the police personnel in connection with the alleged killing of the former militant on August 13.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
