A newly sworn-in mayor of an Idaho city has died after suffering from a medical emergency during a town hall meeting, the city announced.
Rick Hogaboam died the evening of March 18, according to the City of Nampa, where Hogaboam had been sworn in as mayor on Jan. 5. He was 47 years old, local news outlets, including KTVB in Boise, reported.
"As we begin to mourn this unbelievable loss, please provide grace while we navigate the loss of not only our Mayor, but also our friend," the city said in a statement.
According to the nearby City of Eagle, the medical emergency happened during the Treasure Valley Partnership town hall meeting at Eagle City Hall. The meeting was scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., according to previous announcements.
Eagle's mayor, Brad Pike, a former firefighter, "was the first to spring into action," the city said. Others including Eagle's police chief also helped.
