Mary Trump Explains How A Trump Family Myth Created ‘A Monster’

"Everybody else in the family, understanding upon which side their bread was buttered, went along [with it]," said the clinical psychologist.
Mary Trump this week explained how the behavior of her uncle, Donald Trump, has shaped the arrogance of his administration, and she traced it back to his childhood.
Speaking to guest host Sarah Ewall-Wice on the latest episode of the “Daily Beast Podcast,” Mary Trump said the president was never held accountable from an early age. Watch the full interview on YouTube.
“The broader problem here is that […] from the beginning of his adulthood, if not earlier, Donald was never ever held to account for anything and he was enabled at every turn and eventually that creates a monster and we see that happening with increasing impact.”
The clinical psychologist, who for years has called out her relative, placed much of the responsibility on her grandfather, the president’s father, Fred Trump, as “largely responsible for creating this particular monster” by putting Donald Trump “on a pedestal” despite evidence to the contrary.
“He perpetuated the myth or created the myth that Donald was some genius, some savant, some self-made man,” she said.
