Mark Taylor tells Australia selectors to resist Cameron Green to T20 WC squad calls: Bit late to change now

Mark Taylor has urged the Australian selectors to resist calls for taking Cameron Green into the T20 World Cup squad despite his exploits in India. Green excelled during the recently-concluded T20I series against India.

Mark Taylor has urged the Australian selectors to resist the calls to include Cameron Green into the T20 World squad, despite the all-rounder's top performance against India in the recently-concluded T20I series.

Green was one of the positives for the Aussies in the series, which they lost 1-2. The all-rounder was given the job of performing as the opener and slammed two fifties in the first and third T20Is. In the final match, Green scored the joint second-fastest T20I fifty for Australia.

However, Taylor has said that the selectors should stick to the original team. Speaking to Wide World Of Sports, as quoted by zerowicket, the former Aussies captain said that it's a bit late to change the squad now. Taylor credited Green for grabbing the opportunity to open the batting and said that he is putting pressure on the likes of Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Marsh. He also said that it is great news for Australia that the all-rounder is showing his skills and is creating healthy competition.

"I'd be sticking with the 15 they've already selected. I think it's a bit late to change now," Taylor said.

"He grabbed the opportunity to open the batting, and full credit to him for doing that. That's the spot in T20 cricket - the further up the order you can get, the better.

"There's no doubt now he is putting pressure on Marcus Stoinis, although (Stoinis) is the incumbent and Australia won (the World Cup) last year, so it's pretty hard to change that squad.
