Under the government’s Ashirwad scheme, many poor brides in Punjab are awaiting financial help.
Thousands of poor brides, who got married during the last decade in Punjab, are awaiting their shagun (financial help) promised under the government’s Ashirwad scheme.
While state authorities have not revealed the number of beneficiaries awaiting the shagun amount, the opposition Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) estimates it to be 20,000.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
