Durham police say a man is dead after suffering multiple stab wounds in Oshawa Tuesday morning.
Officers were called to the area of Park Road S. and John Street at approximately 4:15 a.m., the Durham Regional Police Service said in a statement to CBC Toronto.
The man was found outside on Park Road S. suffering from multiple stab wounds, Durham police said.
In a post to social media, Durham police said the man was transported to a Toronto trauma centre where he died from his injuries.
Park Road S. is closed between King Street and John Street due to an ongoing investigation and will remain closed for a few hours. Durham police say there is heavy police presence in the area.
At a news conference Tuesday morning, Durham police Sgt. Joanne McCabe said the man was located on the roadway. She also said police don't currently have information about the suspect.
"We're obviously trying to determine who was responsible, and that's going to be the top priority right now," McCabe said.
She said a nearby residence is believed to be connected to the incident, but that connection is part of the ongoing investigation.
"Anyone with information is again asked to contact the homicide units," McCabe said. "Our officers are canvassing in the area. We are requesting you approach one of those officers and provide them with any information you may have."
