
Maharashtra govt opposes Sudha Bharadwaj's default bail plea in Elgar Parishad case

The Maharashtra government opposed the bail plea of Sudha Bharadwaj who is seeking default bail on the ground that a sessions court had earlier passed orders beyond its jurisdiction.
The Maharashtra government has opposed the bail plea filed by Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case accused advocate Sudha Bharadwaj in the Bombay High Court. Bharadwaj is seeking default bail on the grounds that two earlier orders, which were passed in a Pune sessions court in 2018, were beyond the jurisdiction of that court. Thus, with such illegalities involved, bail should be granted, Bharadwaj's counsel argued.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
